The LDA recently invited architects to be involved the creation of a precinct which will set the benchmark for the development of small and sustainable housing in the ACT. The Molonglo Demonstration Precinct (MDP) will be an immensely livable and distinctive community which delivers on sustainable living and design excellence.

The MDP addresses a growing demand for smaller houses located close to services and facilities, located in Molonglo Valley close to a major transport corridor, schools, recreation facilities and shops and just 10km from the centre of the Canberra CBD.

The LDA’s vision included 70 innovative small houses on compact blocks and will demonstrate that small houses are not only good for the planet and buyer’s budgets, they can also be wonderful to live in.

The Master Plan for the Molonglo Demonstration Precinct (MDP) included 5 small multi-unit buildings. These unit buildings are each 3 storeys made up of ground level parking, two units on the first floor and 2 units on the second floor. A maximum of two design variations across the five blocks is proposed.

Quattro Architecture was shortlisted in the competition for the design of these unit buildings, the proposal receiving praise for innovative design and vision.
